About the race
The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB®, the second event in the 2022 UTMB World Series the world’s leading trail running circuit, is a dual qualifier for the iconic UTMB® World Series Finals taking place in Chamonix, France and the Western States 100. In addition, the Canyons 100K distance is a Western States 100 Golden Ticket race where the top two female and male finishers earn direct entry to the Western States 100. Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB starts in the historic gold-rush town of Auburn, birthplace of mountain ultras in the northern California foothills of the Sierra Nevada range.

Experience some of the most scenic and challenging sections of the iconic Western States Trail as you cover up to 16,000’ through the Canyons between Devil’s Thumb and the famous river crossing at Rucky Chucky.
Canyons 50k will start and finish in downtown Auburn, from Robie point to Driver’s Flat and return along the Foresthill Divide Loop with a fast-rolling course that will capture the spirit and origins of trail running in the Sierras of CA.
Endurance capital of the World
The Canyon Endurance Runs by UTMB takes place in the historic town of Auburn. Known as the “Endurance Capital of the World”, Auburn is no stranger to hosting some of the most iconic races the world has seen. Both the Western States 100-mile run, and the Tevis Cup 100-mile ride finish in Auburn and with The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB now starting downtown, there is no doubting Auburn is truly the Endurance Capital of the World.
Gold Rush Country
You’ll dip your toes into the rushing waters of the historic American River, crossing mountain streams and old wooden bridges through historic settlements from California’s gold rush days. You might even hear an echo of old prospectors and mules on their quest for the mother lode as you follow the same trail, they did over 150 years ago.
Western States Course Share
Participants will experience some of the most scenic and challenging sections of the iconic Western States Trail as they cover up to 24,000’ passing by the river crossing at Rucky Chucky then through the Canyons to visit infamous Devil’s Thumb and Swinging Bridge. Your limits will be tested, and your finish will be hard fought as this is the most rugged and difficult section of the Western States Trail.
