About the race
The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB® starts in the historic gold-rush town of Auburn, birthplace of mountain ultras, located in the northern California foothills of the Sierra Nevada range. This race is a qualifier for the iconic UTMB World Series Finals and the Western States Endurance Run. In addition, the Canyons 100K distance is a Western States 100 Golden Ticket race in which the top two female and male finishers earn direct entry to the Western States 100.

Endurance Capital of the World™️
The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB takes place in the historic town of Auburn. Known as the “Endurance Capital of the World™️”, Auburn is no stranger to hosting some of the most iconic races the world has seen. Both the Western States 100-mile run, and the Tevis Cup 100-mile ride finish in Auburn and with The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB finishing downtown, there is no doubting Auburn is truly the Endurance Capital of the World™️.
Western States Course Share
Participants will experience some of the most scenic and challenging sections of the iconic Western States Trail as they cover up to 17,000’ passing by the river crossing at Rucky Chucky then through the Canyons to visit infamous Devil’s Thumb and Swinging Bridge. Your limits will be tested, and your finish will be hard fought as this is the most rugged and difficult section of the Western States Trail.
Western States Golden Ticket Race
The 2025 Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB will be a Western States Endurance Run Golden Ticket race! The Top 3 Female and Male winners of the Canyons 100K will be awarded with a Golden Ticket for the 2025 Western States Endurance Run.
Dual Qualifier
The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB is a dual qualifier for the iconic UTMB® World Series Finals and the Western States Endurance Run. In addition, the Canyons 100K is a golden ticket race for the Western States 100.
Gold Rush Country
You’ll dip your toes into the rushing waters of the historic American River, crossing mountain streams and old wooden bridges through historic settlements from California’s gold rush days. You might even hear an echo of old prospectors and mules on their quest for the mother lode as you follow the same trail, they did over 150 years ago.

Through UTMB Cares US, we have set out to achieve something extraordinary by caring for the amazing environments that host our trail events. UTMB Cares US is a program of The IRONMAN Foundation. Since 2003, over $55 million has been provided through IRONMAN and IRONMAN Foundation charitable giveback programs to more than 10,000 local, regional, national, and global nonprofit initiatives. Including $50,000 in grant funding for clean-up and restoration efforts of the Western States Trail, enjoyed by The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB®️ runners, in partnership with Western States Endurance Run and The Tevis Cup. Together, we are on a quest to engage our community and care for our race surroundings through grant funding and volunteerism efforts.
